There’s no doubt about it. Websites can’t exist for free. There’s a lot of overheads, for example: Hosting, Security, Writers, Information, SEO and marketing. All of this can add up. As a result websites need to generate revenue, not just to pay for these costs, but also to be a viable business and make money.
I have no issues with websites using adverts in a sensible manner, whether that be inline, affilated links or good quality sponsorships and promoted articles, however there are so many websites out there who will plaster your screen with pop up ads, massive google adsense banners that look like they’re from 10 years ago and all of this is making the internet unusable.
To make the experience more bareable I have been running adblock, but even that has it’s issues and that can be seen with YouTube videos. Thankfully the amazing people behind the Brave browser have created an amazing way to use the internet without all of the advertisement baggage.
Some of my favourite features can be seen below.
- Ads are blocked by the browser. There’s no need for an additional plugin.
- Better experience than using an adblock plugin. I’ve experimented with a couple different plugins and they all usually struggle with YouTube’s annoying ads and results in a black screen over the YouTube video player. You don’t get that with Brave.
- Ability to add videos to your ‘Playlist’ on iOS and download them for offline viewing (without any annoying Ads).
- Saved data tracking on the new tab page. This allows you to see the amount of data you’ve saved by not pulling in adverts on webpages.
- Cross site trackers are blocked
- Built in TOR capability if required.
These are just of my favourite features with the Brave browser.
I highly recommend that you give the Brave browser a go. It’s available on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android. If you want to learn more about the Brave browser, then head over to the Brave website here.
